Reflections of a fashion.

Playing with Lace

Playing with Lace

a few illustrations from the River island project.

Here are 3 of the 4 illustrations from the river island project.

i think my designs were ok. i really liked how the group work inspired my collection. i mainly used pastels/the mullet skirt/orange as my main inspiration.

working to such a tight deadline i actually prefer, it means i know it has to be done , so i get on and do it.

i find the fast pace exciting.

i want to work on my presentation and my working drawings for my portfolio and also take them into photoshop and illustrator.

but overall i really enjoyed the project, made me understand a lot more about working in the commercial side of fashion.

not something i think i want to go into but it’s a very competitive market.

Today’s Lecture!

Well todays lecture was all about….

The LRC!!!

Not something i really thought would be helpful as i’ve had it 2 times already.

Not blogged for a bit so…time to catch up!

After about 3 weeks of our induction unit im starting to feel more comfortable with the pace of things , i’ve been thinking a lot about my fmp (final major project) and so far…

I’ve written out a mind-map of subjects within my theme of “1940’s” Here is my mindmap:

Recently i’ve started looking into the silhouettes of the 40’s and also the fabrics/prints/patterns they use.

i think the 40’s silhouette is very elegant and feminine something i wish to recreate in my collection.

Looking into the fashion of the 40’s (women’s wear)

  • War time Austerity
  • Dior new look
  • Glamour
  • Fitted skirts,jackets and coats.

(Dior new look- Bigger skirts and petticoats)

I think the new look has been done/reinvented quite a lot in the past so i’ve decided to work on the early 40’s - wartime era.

Making a commercial pattern!

So we were asked to chose a commercial pattern to follow for a project.

this will be really good just to help me with understanding construction and how something should be put together step by step.

i think this will really help me.

So by friday i hadn’t got a pattern and was panicking quite a bit but luckily a classmate of mine had a few spare , i actually chose to make up a pair of trousers , i’ve never actually made trousers before so i figured it would be a good learning curve for me.

the trousers happened to be from the 70’s which is actually very in fashion at the moment. they are very wide flared trousers.

SWOT Analysis.

We got asked to fill in a SWOT analysis form today too and well this confused me at first , then after it being explained i can see how it can help me to become a better designer.

SWOT Analysis.

What is this?

S- Strengths

W-Weaknesses

O-Opportunitites

T-Threats

So time to think about my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats!

Reflective Learning!!!

Reflective Learning!!!

Beginning to reflect…

After todays lecture on reflective learning i thought it was about time i started reflecting.

Today we were told we were using the Rolfe et al Framework for reflective practice.

what is this? well pretty much its these 3 points, What?, So what? and Now what?.

What do these mean?

What?

What means , what is it you’ve learnt, what is it you’ve seen, found. A description.

So What?

So what means, why did you find this important , why has it helped you, how has it helped you, what have you learnt.

Now what?

Now what means, Time to take action, action plan, Further reading, what will you do next.
